It’s that time of year when the world falls in love, every song you hear seems to say, “Will you marry me?” For a marriage proposal that will wow her, review this list of our favourite holiday and New Year’s Eve marriage proposal ideas.
Ask your nearest department store to let you play Santa for a day. Have someone take your loved one shopping and convince them to sit on Santa’s lap, then give her the ultimate Christmas gift!
Make an advent calendar, as each door opens should reveal a sentimental memory or reason you love him or her. Be sneaky and hide the proposal behind the door for December 25.
Write out a proposal with roses in the snow or in Christmas lights on your house.
Attach plastic antlers and a red nose to your (selfless) dog. Then put the ring on a ribbon around the dog’s neck and send the dog to wake up your beloved. For a Christmas morning your other half will never forget.
If you detest Christmas parties why not plan the perfect at home hideaway. Bah, Humbug! Do it to the extreme, if you’re foodies, think caviar and champagne, make it the best you can afford. At the stroke of midnight or when the moment feels right, ask that special question!
Over the years Als events and weddings have had the pleasure of being part of two DIY weddings.
The first was a couple from Birmingham who had their heart set on being married at The MacDonald Hotel in Kinloch Rannoch. The couple had chosen this stunning location for their wedding as they enjoyed hillwalking and had visited this area on numerous occasions.
Unfortunately the couple’s plans were quashed when The MacDonald Hotel quoted in excess of £15000 to host the wedding, which was way outside of their budget.
Disappointed, the couple decided to go the local pub for a drink and while they were there, got talking to the bar owner and explained their predicament.
The bar manager was extremely helpful and suggested that they have their wedding in the pub and then have the reception in The MacDonald.
He explained that they could close the bar for the day and erect a marquee at the rear for the ceremony and drinks reception and that he would also organise the catering for the wedding.
After the meal and drinks reception, the wedding party walked the short distance to The MacDonald Hotel where Al had set up for the wedding disco.
The couple were delighted at how much money they had saved by organising their own wedding and were thrilled that the reduction in cost allowed them to provide transport and accommodation for their friends and family traveling up from Birmingham.
In the end the couple spent £5000 on their wedding and still got to have it in their chosen location and venue. They were delighted with their wedding day and especially the service they received by Als events and weddings
Have you ever considered a DIY wedding?
Prep for the big day starts off with the client/Wedding DJ meeting at the booking stage, where I can introduce myself and advise the couple on what to expect on their Wedding Day. Here I will also run through what my role on the night will be, what access I need to set up etc. When booking I set the couple up on my event planner where they can choose their first dance song and also select the songs they would like to hear on the night.
On the day before I like to personally contact the Wedding Coordinator of the venue to introduce myself as the Wedding DJ/Host. On the day before or day of, I speak with the couple to talk through their first dance, the Dancing on Clouds effect and about who else will be joining in with the first dance.
On the day of the Wedding I would normally set off a few hours prior to the start time to make sure I’m at the venue on time, as you never know what obstacles may be in your way. On arrival I introduce myself to the Wedding Coordinator and find out how far along they are with the meal and also if I am able to set up yet. With most venues you have to wait until after the meal, when they turn the room around, so once the meal is finished I get my gear loaded into the room and get set up as quickly as possible, after all these years it’s pretty darn quick! A quick test of the microphone, sound system them lights to make sure they are all programmed to coordinate with their chosen colour scheme. I then slip on some background music as the guests enter the room, introduce myself as the Wedding DJ to everyone and explain to them what will be happening next and give them all the time scales.
The beginning of the New Year brings back around all those reasons you had to celebrate in 2015 , Who are you planning a party for this year? No matter what the occasion, Birthday, Wedding Anniversary, Wedding Disco, etc, Al is the perfect party host.
What makes Al the perfect choice? Meeting up with the client prior to the event to discuss the musical preferences or you and your guests and how you would like your evening to run. After hearing a bit more about you, your party and your musical preferences, I will also be happy to come up with a few suggestions to help make your event more entertaining and memorable for you and your guests. Also, with certain party packages you will have access to the Online Event Planner. This allows you to select your own music for your party. You can select your favourite tunes from the 50’s right the way through to the present day chart.
On the night
I love to make it all about you by starting of with a big intro for the client, a bit about you and what we’re celebrating. If it’s a Wedding I like to add a personal touch and get the happy couple to jot down a few sweet words prior to the evening and then read it out before the first dance as what I call their Love Story.
I always introduce myself, it gets me engaging with the guests so they feel comfortable to approach me and chat back. As well as that I then ask the tables sitting beside each other to introduce themselves to the tables next to them, which helps to create a lovely relaxed atmosphere at your party.
I wouldn’t be the perfect party host if I didn’t encourage your guests to get up and let loose. I go round the tables and ask each one to give me 3 songs they will get up and dance to, then introduce the tables and there song when it comes on. This ensures that everyone gets to hear what they want to hear and gets everyone up on the dance floor at least a few times. In case there are any odd numbers I offer my services to anyone who would like a dance partner and I also get out there and join in with Cha Cha Slide, The Timewarp, etc.
